This is the most important central region of Cappadocia. This program takes you to Devrent Valley (Imagination Valley) of strange rock formations, Zelve Open Air Museum which is an abandoned rock village, Pasabaglari for the special three–headed fairy chimneys, Avanos for lunch and local pottery demonstration using an ancient Hittite technique, Goreme Open Air Museum for Byzantine cave churches with beautiful frescos (the Dark Church is not visited on group tours), Esentepe panoramic viewpoint over fairy chimney homes, and a viewpoint of Uchisar Castle with its ancient carved out dwellings.
This tour takes in a not-to-be-missed underground city and visits beautiful quiet and uncrowded countryside and villages for historical and natural sights. Kaymakli underground city, Soganli Valley to walk beetween the churches and see the handcrafts of the local village ladies, Sobessos archaological site of a newly discovered town and the only mosaics in Cappadocia, Taskinpasa medrese with the detailed stonework patterns of 14th century artesans, Keslik Monastery with its two churches in tranquil setting, and the former Christian village of Mustafapasa (Sinassos).
This tour takes you further out of the region (Ihlara is a 3 hour return journey time from central Cappadocia). On the way to the canyon you will visit Derinkuyu underground city, Nar volcanic crater lake, walk for 4 kilometers in Ihlara Canyon next to the river, lunch at Bellisirma village, see the monastery at Selime and the panoramic view at Yaprakhisar, and finally stop at Agzikarahan Caravanserai, a once lively motel for camel trains on the Silk Road.
